History: Wat Phra That Klang Wiang (Wat Phra That Doung Deo). According to legend, Queen Chammari escaped the war from Luang Prabang to Li district. She prayed that she had a very strong purpose to build a town here as a refuge place. She wished for the power of the goddess, requiring the Great Elephant (Phaya Chang) to guide her. Suddenly, the deva had inspired the Elephant to take her to the Mae Tae stream where there was sunshine and where she found the Lighting Ball floating out of a big anthill which radiated light all around it. It has been flying out and flying back between Wat Phra That Duang and Wat Phra That, five times during the night. For Queen Chammari this was a good sign. It was afterwards, she started to create a town and temples in that vicinity.
At present, there are still traces of Kan Phu Wiang seen along the road. The interior building of the temple including all the relics that were built later. Kruba Srivichai took his students, monks and novices to build the temple, this creation was positioned by the ancient city.
